Before becoming a nurse, I knew the bare minimum to CPR. My mom was diagnosed with congestive heart failure in 2015. She had an enlarged heart known as cardiomyopathy and during her fight she always had shortness of breath and a really high heart rate. During her care, she would have a nurse come to the house weekly to change out her weekly IV medication.
On the morning of June 16, 2018, her nurse came out and my mom was awake and alert but in about three minutes of her nurse visit she laid down and was unresponsive and not breathing. Her nurse at the time immediately jumped in and provided CPR. This allowed my family to have a little more time with her.
Although she is no longer with us due to her complications with heart failure, that time we had with her before passing was everything. Every second counts! Learn CPR, Fight for every Heart❤️
